When we speak of dangers, we're talking about what people are using to try and eliminate their gophers.

Poisons, mothballs, gasoline, exhausts and other scary items.
Poisons come in many forms, grain from suppliers and some that people create in their sinks and mix with fruits and vegetables.  Regardless of what they are using, gophers have a keen sense of smell and can quickly identify that what was put into their environment, was not put there by them.  The gopher will take the poisoned item and insert it in it's side pouches and then leave it above ground.  Since gophers travel great distances, those poisoned items can become a liability in your neighbors yard.  A child can eat the poison, as well as family pets and wildlife.  If someone tells you that the poisons are working, demand to see the bodies.  There may be that one gopher, usually a very small one that will become a victim but after that, you will see more mounds and activity.  This is not "pay back", the gophers are making new tunneling systems.  If by chance the gophers leave the area, don't worry, they'll be back.  Using mothballs are not a good idea, the smell will not chase them away but they will most likely make you sick.  Using gasoline is by far one of the most ignorant things we have ever seen!  Do NOT do this!  If you love your home, or you think your neighbor loves theirs, do not do this.  Do not pour toxins, especially gasoline and gasses into the tunnels.  Even if you don't light it up yourself, what about what is going on elsewhere?  What if the other end of that tunnel is directly under your neighbors bathtub?  Do you think you'd be responsible?  You bet!  Who knows, maybe your neighbor might be using a gas mixture and flares, same result.  For those who believe that exhaust fumes will do the trick...you are absolutely wrong.  The second you begin inserting anything that has an odor, those gophers are already finishing their walls, keeping the remaining tunnels safe.  Can you imagine your neighbor who is taking a bath, next to that water line that your gopher has used as a guide to den underneath their home.  Don't you realize that your neighbor would be affected?  Use enough and you could kill a human.  Something serious to take into consideration.

Garden Hoses and flooding out the enemy:
We know that there are many who swear by this technique but let us assure you that the only thing you're doing is wasting water.  If you want to throw away your money, just send it our way.  We could use it to offset our publishing costs.  It's very simple; gophers are smart, smarter than most of us.  Why do you think they've been around for so long?
Open your cabinet sink, notice how the plumbing is designed to keep water from backing up?  Same thing.  Gophers can also place a new wall in their tunnels within seconds.  As soon as the walls are secure, the gopher runs to it's den to wait it out until the water is gone.  If you're one of the lucky ones who claim to have "flushed" one out and "stomped" on it.  Congratulations!  Enjoy your next water bill and possible fine for wasting water...by the way, when your foundation, basement wall or pool collapses, don't say we didn't warn you!
